53 families who lost their loved ones in the devastating Londiani accident found solace after the government compensated them for their immense loss.

On Friday, July 21, the families of the victims received approximately Ksh90,000 each while the over 20 victims who survived the June 30 road carnage were given Ksh60,000 each.

Wesley Bo, the County Secretary of the Kericho County Government, encouraged the families to accept the small token with open hearts, assuring them that the government would continue addressing their plight.

“We are still in mourning and I know God has been with you. Looking at you today I can see some calmness but I know you have a lot of questions - what could have happened if maybe they delayed a bit or were somewhere else?

"Let me just tell you today. It is high time we accept. ” Kipkelion East MP Joseph Cherorot added.

While highlighting the impact of the accident, Kericho County Health Minister, Brenda Bii, stated that some victim's legs were amputated, while others were still recovering from the trauma.

“We even conducted post mortem for all the deceased and other services at a cost. As a county we have cleared all those hospital expenses,” Brenda Bii stated, adding that the county was committed to the welfare of the victims.

Immediately after the accident occurred, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua initiated a fund drive to offer assistance and relief to the affected families and victims.

The DP raised over Ksh13 million during the memorial service of over 52 victims who passed away in the accident, held on July 4 in Kericho.

In other developments, the driver of the truck driver, a Rwandese, was arraigned at the Molo Law Courts on Wednesday, July 19th. The driver faced 90 charges, including dangerous driving and the destruction of 10 vehicles.

Molo Chief Magistrate, Ellena Nderitu, in her ruling, denied him bail, arguing that he posed a flight risk. The court feared that the suspect would flee to Rwanda, thus affecting the progress of the case.

Police were ordered to detain him at Nakuru Prison pending the hearing and determination of his case on August 30.
