Kenyans are calling for investigations and the arrest of a double-cabin driver captured on CCTV footage running over a bodaboda rider transporting a passenger.
In the footage, which has since gone viral on social media, the bodaboda rider can be seen navigating a corner closely followed by the pickup driver. The pickup's high speed puts pressure on the rider, causing him to lose balance and fall into a nearby drainage ditch along with his passenger.
According to the timestamp on the footage, the incident occurred minutes after 1 am on Monday, July 31.
Per the account of the user who first shared the video online, the incident happened in Kinangop, Nyandarua County.
As the bodaboda rider attempted to get on his feet, the driver of the pickup knocked him over.
In a shocking turn of events, the driver proceeded to reverse the vehicle and hit the rider once again.
Amidst the commotion, a watchman who was guarding a nearby building rushed to the scene. Upon sensing he had been made, the pickup driver sped off.
The passenger, in the meantime, struggled to get back on their feet while the bodaboda rider remained on the ground, unable to move.
Immediately after the incident, well-wishers rushed the bodaboda rider to North Kinangop Catholic Hospital, where he was admitted with leg fractures. Doctors promptly attended to him, plastering his injured leg.
The passenger was fortunate to sustain minor injuries from the accident.
The police have been actively involved in the matter, and investigations are ongoing to determine the root cause of the unusual incident.
