Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Sunday, August 6, recounted a near-death experience she had on a flight back to Kenya from the United States.

Speaking during the interdenominational Thanksgiving Service at the Sagana State Lodge, Waiguru revealed that during the flight, the pilot had informed them about encountering unexpected turbulence mid-air, which naturally caused her to feel concerned about her safe return home to her family.

The Chairperson of the Council of Governors, without disclosing the specifics of her trip to the US or the exact timing of the incident, shared that during her journey, the turbulence progressively intensified, causing her great fear for her safety.

Overwhelmed with anxiety, she resorted to praying fervently, seeking solace in her faith.

"The pilot then asked the cabin crew to take their seats. It felt like the plane hit something and I shouted to Jesus to send his angels to take us home safely," she stated.

"A lady who was seated next to me intervened and stated that Jesus should come himself. I then knew that I was not the only person who was scared."

Fortunately, the turbulence eventually eased, and the aircraft successfully landed in Kenya, ensuring the safety of all passengers on board.

Following the unsettling incident, Waiguru engaged in a conversation with the woman seated next to her, to share their mutual relief at having overcome the near-death experience.

"I got to ask the lady why she cancelled my prayer for the angels to be sent and she explained that the angels would have been sent to take us somewhere else (heaven)," she joked.

Since that encounter, the former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary revealed that she has developed a flying phobia.

Waiguru went on to encourage President William Ruto who was in attendance to use her experience as a motivation to take on the challenges he is facing head-on.

"We have gotten the message from the Bishop and we have been told that we will get to the other side. All we need to have is faith," the governor encouraged President Ruto.
