A 73-year-old widow in Embu has written an open letter to Embu County Governor Cecily Mbarire after a county official blocked access to her house.

The lady in the letter to the governor stated that she was the owner of a house located at Dallas Estate in Kirimaru Ward which had since been barricaded.

She detailed to the governor that her troubles began when an Embu County Government official fenced the road fronting her property limiting access to her house.

To compound her woes, the said county official went further and erected a permanent hall in front of the widow’s house.

Faulting the official, the widow stated that the fenced road had been carved out of her property during the subdivision of the land 50 years ago.

She explained that for five decades she has used the road to access her house and it is marked as a public access road in the Registry Index Map (RIM).

“I am forced to beg for passage through my neighbour’s property to reach my house in my sunset days,” she emotionally requested Mbarire to act.

She added that it was unfair the schemers and executors of the plan to lock her out of her house were enjoying unrestricted access to their homes.

In further complaint to the governor, she explained that for years she had dutifully paid land rates for a house she was now barricaded from accessing.

Recounting her arduous journey in seeking justice, the widow noted that she had sought the intervention of the National Lands Commission (NLC).

The Commission directed the county official not to erect any structure on the road but he ignored the order.

“Please end my suffering at the hands of county officials,” she signed off her emotional letter to the governor.

Mbarire is yet to respond to the letter which was published on Tuesday, August 8.
