An officer attached to Nakuru Police Station has been placed in custody after allegedly shooting dead his supervisor in an early morning attack.

While confirming the incident that occurred on Tuesday, August 8, Nakuru Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi stated that the duo worked together at the Dog Section Unit.

The officer, upon realising the gravity of the incident and the consequences he was facing, immediately fled into hiding.

However, his colleagues immediately launched a manhunt and tracked him down with leads and tip-offs from members of the public.

Nakuru Police boss, Samuel Ndanyi confirmed that the wanted officer was arrested and detained at the Nakuru Central Police Station pending preferment of charges and arraignment in court.

"We are yet to ascertain why the junior officer killed his supervisor at around 5 am in the morning," Ndanyi stated, adding that they had launched investigations into the incident.

As the investigators seek to unravel the issue, police underlined that there were no apparent signs of anger or conflict between the suspect and his supervisor before the tragic incident occurred.

Preliminary reports indicated that the officer was shot from the back around the chest area, and the bullet penetrated his body. Detectives suspected that the victim was shot at close range.

They also claimed that the deceased was helpless as there were no signs of struggle or resistance between the junior officer, believed to be the aggressor and his boss.

In addition to the arrest and detention of the junior officer, police seized the gun used to commit the heinous act and handed it over to detectives who will conduct a ballistic examination.

Ndanyi emphasised that the report will be used to link the firearm to the crime scene and the fatal shooting.

At the same time, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) processed the crime scene and recovered bullet cartridges.

Investigators also collected other pieces of evidence, including DNA components that could be used to place the suspect at the scene of the crime, from fingerprints, hair, fibres, and blood.
