Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday displayed a kind gesture by rewarding a disabled man who disrupted his function and breached protocol in an attempt to speak with him.
The incident occurred during a political meeting the country's second in command was holding in Kapsisiywa, Chesumei, Nandi County. The disabled man swiftly bypassed the security guards, making his way toward the area where Gachagua was seated. This unexpected action led the security team to swiftly respond, due to safety concerns.
At that precise moment, Gachagua was attentively listening to the address being delivered by Gitonga Mukunji, the Member of Parliament for Manyatta. The bold move of the disabled man caused a stir among the leaders assembled under the tent, prompting the legislator to request that the man be granted the opportunity to engage with Gachagua.
"Let him greet the Deputy President," the MP stated.
The Deputy President then proceeded to gift the man 2 cows and pledged to have a wheelchair delivered to him.
"Ensure you measure his weight so we can get him the right wheelchair. I will organise how he gets the cows before I leave and ensure he progresses with his work as he awaits the wheelchair," Gachagua stated.
He further directed the local leaders to follow up on the matter and ensure the man gets the wheelchair.
Additionally, Gachagua dished out Ksh300,000 to support the initiatives of the Kenya Youth Organization, benefiting approximately 100 members.
During the event, he extended an invitation to the organisation's leader to take the stage and elaborate on their objectives. It was revealed that the group focuses on youth leadership and governance.
Meanwhile, throughout the occasion, Gachagua reaffirmed the government's dedication to ensuring that it fulfills its campaign promises.
"I came here to listen to the issues facing the community and the elders have briefed me. We are working to guarantee development in this area," Gachagua remarked.
At the same time, the Deputy President urged the opposition to stop what he described as side shows geared at derailing the government's agenda and ensuring the Kenya Kwanza administration does not achieve its objectives.
"You elected the president and I will protect him if these people come to disturb him. I have State House secured do not worry," he affirmed.
