Machakos is mourning the death of one of its members of the county's assembly, who passed away a day after returning from the Devolution Conference in Eldoret.
A source from the county told Kenyans.co.ke that the deceased, Mumbuni MCA Gedion Kavuu, was at a garage on Saturday when he fell unconscious.
The lawmaker was then rushed to a local hospital, Bristol Park, in Machakos County, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
"He was suffering from blood pressure, an issue he has had for a long time. Approximately 20 years. He also suffers from diabetes," stated the source, who declined to be named.
"Yesterday, he had gone to the garage with his son for car repair. While in the car, the son discovered that he had lost consciousness. He rushed him to Bristol Park, Machakos, where he was pronounced dead," he added.
Kavuu was hanging out with his son a day after returning from the Devolution Conference held in Uasin Gishu County.
Former Machakos Assembly Speaker Bernard Mung'ata eulogised the lawmaker as a dedicated public servant who prioritised his ward members.
"Kavuu loved his work; We have seen him build roads and churches. He listened to everyone in Mumbuni North. I worked closely with him, and he considered every person's opinion no matter the age," Mung'ata mourned.
Alfred Mutua, Foreign Affairs CS and Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader, hailed the deceased as a humble servant. Kavuu was elected as an MCA via the party ticket.
"Fare thee well, Gideon Saul Kavuu. I am sad to announce the passing of Maendeleo Chap Chap Party MCA of Mumbuni North Ward. What a loss of a humble & dedicated leader," eulogised Mutua.
"My condolences to his family, Governor Wavinya Ndeti, colleagues and people Machakos County. Rest In Peace."
Until his demise, Kavuu was the Mumbuni MCA, a position he held since winning the election in August 2022.
Kavuu held the seat between 2013 and 2017 but lost it to a competitor before reclaiming it under the Maendeleo Chap Chap party in 2022.
He had also previously served as the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) official.
