Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday revealed that he was going to host a mega celebration in Rongai, Nakuru County where he would slaughter 50 cows.

The DP was in a celebratory mood after his campaigns in the region saw the residents vote for Paul Chebor as a Member of Parliament instead of Raymond Moi son of the second president of Kenya.

Addressing the residents during title deeds issuance in the area, he stated that he remembered the promise he made to Rongai voters on August 2022.

“I am happy that you listened to me. I told them if Chebir wins we will have a party,” he told the Head of State.

“It is up to you (Chebor) to plan. I have the cows already. We agreed I would slaughter 50 cows.”

The Deputy President further revealed how President William Ruto had given him a brief that the Rongai parliamentary by-election was a must-win.

After getting instructions from Ruto who was President-elect then, Gachagua and other members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) camped in the region for days.

“We had a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the people that they would be in government since we had a president already. They spoke with one voice that they will be in the government and voted unanimously for Chebor,” he stated.

While thanking Rongai residents for keeping an end of their bargain, he warned Chebor to treat them fairly.

He explained that when he had camped in the region, residents had vowed to vote for the then-incumbent Raymond Moi since he gave out school bursaries fairly.

Gachagua urged the first-term MP to carry on such practice if he wanted to be a mainstay in the August House.

Chebor who was vying under the UDA ticket won with  27,021 votes while Raymond Moi who was vying under the Kenya African National Union (KANU) came a distant second with 14,715 votes.

Before winning the Rongai seat, Chebor had served for two terms as county representative for the Solai Ward.
