A number of people are nursing serious injuries after a Kenya Army truck lost control and crashed into a crowd in Kerugoya town, Kirinyaga County, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.
The accident occurred in the afternoon at one of the busy streets in Kerugoya town as the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) lorry maneuvered its way out the business district.
The accident took place at a narrow street between an ongoing construction and a popular business premises in the town, which is largely known for its agribusiness activities.
It was reported that the truck was carrying military personnel and supplies when it lost control and veered off the road, hitting several people, cars and motorcycles.
Residents injured in the accident who included small scale traders were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
Other reports indicated that more serious cases were treated for their injuries at the Kerugoya Level 4 Hospital, where they got specialised medical attention.
In a video that was widely shared on social media, members of the public were seen helping the soldiers to rescue and evacuate the injured.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

On Thursday, 20 July, a Kenya Airforce plane, with passengers on board, crashed minutes after lift-off in the Rift Valley region.
It was reported that the passengers were on their way to Nairobi from on official duty when the chopper developed mechanical challenges and crashed.
The military chopper, identified as a Fennec Helicopter, did not take long in the air after lift-off.
