Airbnbs have continued to provide Kenyans with affordable accommodation options, especially during vacations.
These unconventional modes of accommodation have grown in popularity, especially among the young generation looking to avoid traditional hotels.
Some of these facilities offer unique features to attract as many clients as possible. These may range from; decorations to food, reception, and aesthetics.
One of these Airbnb is a double-decker bus decorated and revamped into a home.
Located in Kibo Lane, Karen, Nairobi, the bus offers an adventurous stay.
Nicknamed the Brandy Bus, the facility offers accommodation to up to six guests. It charges up to Ksh19,495 (USD134) per night.
The cozy bus is an ideal place for a group of friends or young couples to rekindle their love and share the tiny and homey bus house.
Its interior is minimalistic to avoid cluttering the limited space, it has a combination of subtle and semi-nude colours and unique furniture pieces.
The Airbnb has wide square windows to allow natural light inside.
It has several beds of different sizes and cozy couches (sofa beds) for residents to relax, and enjoy a drink or a chapter of their favourite books.
The sitting area is decorated with ancient artifacts, flowers, paintings, a couple of CDs, a music system, and pillows with words of wisdom written on them. One reads 'Traveling is learning.'
Visitors can also make their own food in the kitchen section equipped with a cooker, microwave, fridge, kettle, and other necessities.
The exterior is also a site to behold, the bus's alluring white and green colour is appealing to the eye as it blends with the environment.
At night, the glowing lights in the bus create the illusion of a one-storey apartment in the woods.
Visitors can set up a picnic outside, and relax under the patio furniture.
They can also bask in the sunlight on the sunbeds. At night, the visitors can also set a bonfire to watch the stars dance in the sky.
The outside is also decorated with potted flowers to add to the scenery.
Another mesmerising feature outside the home is the tall tree with pink flowers that provides shade for visitors.
Designed by Karen Fraser, the Brandy Bus was featured on Vogue India in August 2019 and the Readers Digest in September 2021.
It is situated near the Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe Center, Oloolua nature trail, and other sites for visitors looking to be in the neighbourhood for a while.
"We pride ourselves on providing top-notch amenities for our guests, including WiFi, 24-hour security, 24-hour check-in, detailed area guide, and parking space," reads part of the facility's bio.
