Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o has rehired Eli Khumundu who together with a colleague stole Ksh2 million from the politician last year.

Speaking moments after he was given his old job back, Eli revealed that he had been persuaded by his colleague to steal from their employer.

Narrating events of that day, Eli told Jalang’o that his colleague told him that there was Ksh1 million in one of the cars that they were cleaning and they should run away with it.

“I refused but then after some time I saw the gate was open and he (the colleague) had run away with the cash and our images were plastered on social media that we had stolen the cash,” Eli explained.

Reuniting with his colleague, Eli was given a cut of Ksh500,000. It was not until later that he realised the amount had been Ksh2 million and not Ksh1 million.

Jalang’o in a video shared online revealed how Eli kept begging for his old job even after running away.

According to the first-term MP, Eli went home to Bungoma but kept pestering Jalang’o to help him financially.

“I did not benefit from the money. Part of the sum I used to bribe people when I was on the run and the rest I brought back,” he explained.

Jalang’o was fearful that his once-trusted employee would steal again.

Eli revealed that he regretted his actions and would never jeopardise his job and reputation again.

Ironically, Eli revealed that Jalang’o still leaves huge amounts of cash in his car even after the incident.

The MP while giving Eli his old job back, refuted claims that he had stage-managed the heist for political mileage.

At the time the money was reportedly stolen, Jalang’o was vying for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat. He went on to win the case.

Jalang’o is yet to re-employ Eli’s colleague who ran to Laikipia and later Kikuyu after the incident.
