Kawira initially accused a senior politician from the County for the wrangles that attracted national headlines.

The incident also left eight NPS Officers seriously injured after being pelted with stones by the attackers.

Four vehicles among them, County Government and Police vehicles were also destroyed.

The police were  also forced to pelt teargas in order to disperse the demonstrators who violently threw stones at them. The law enforcement personnel had erected barricades in roads leading to Meru Town as the situation escalated.

This news comes barely hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) summoned the Meru Deputy Governor over the chaos.

Governor Mwangaza and her Deputy Isaac Mutuma, have been at loggerheads, with the latter accusing his boss of incompetence and nepotism.

So deep was the fallout that President William Ruto had to dispatch Deputy President William Ruto to mediate between the two leaders.

However, the Governor has in most occasions downplayed the differences with her Deputy choosing to say that the rift has been blown out of proportion.
