Azimio and NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua has addressed claims that she has abandoned the Azimio coalition for a new outfit dubbed Kamwene.
This is after Makau Mutua alleged that she had now abandoned the Azimio outfit for an ethnic-based movement.
‘’I am an unflinching member of Kamwene, NARC-Kenya, and Azimio Kenya all without contradiction,’’ stated Martha Karua.
Prof. Makau Mutua who served at the Azimio presidential secretariat made claims that the Azimio co-principal and the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula had started aligning in ethnic outfits.
‘’SAD to see senior folks like Hon. Wetangula of Kenya Kwanza and Martha Karua of NARC-Kenya retreat to their ethnic cocoons,'' he said
‘’Ms. Karua is now in Kamwene, a Kikuyu outfit and Mr. Wetangula is calling for Luhya ethnocentrism,’’ added Makau Mutua.
Karua and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremia Kioni have fronted a new coalition dubbed Kamwana Leadership Forum that they say will champion the interests of the Mt. Kenya region.
This is after the two noted that the Azimio coalition did not place a representative of the region in the National Dialogue Committee.
However, Martha Karua had earlier noted that the forum was just for leaders to speak out.
“It does not mean we are not in Azimio, if we weren’t we would say it without beating around the bush. You saw us speak as Azimio, today we are here speaking as Kamwene, tomorrow I will speak as Narc-Kenya, all these are spaces we occupy,” she said.
Moses Wetangula during an interdenominational church service at Ishikhulu Primary School, Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County called for the luhya unity.
The Sunday service saw leaders drawn from Azimio and Kenya Kwanza factions put aside their political differences and call for unity.
"Musalia and I are working together and we will not allow negative voices to divide us," Wetangula stated.
