KRA Intelligence Unit Recalls 119 Vehicles to Verify Owners [LIST]

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has recalled 119 registered vehicles to verify owners and check importation documents.

In a notice on Tuesday, the taxman indicated that the owners of the vehicles will be required to submit documentation to prove ownership of the vehicles alongside importation documents.

KRA has directed that the vehicles be submitted for inspection at their offices in Forodha House - Mombasa, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) - Nairobi, Kiptagich House - Eldoret, Nakuru - Generation House George Morara Avenue, Nyeri - Veka Plaza, Isiolo -Landmark Hotel or Kisumu Swan Centre.

"KRA wishes to notify the owners of the vehicles listed below to present the vehicles for inspection together with the original ownership, sale agreement, transfer, and importation documents to the Commissioner of Intelligence," read the statement in part.

"The registered owners of the listed vehicles are required to take notice of Section 204 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004."

The owners of the vehicles have been directed to comply with the notice in the exercise that will be carried out between Wednesday, September 27 to October 6.

Those who fail to comply with the directive risk hefty penalties, according to KRA. 

As per the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, failure to comply with the directive could attract a fine amounting to over Ksh732,000 (USD 5,000).

"A person who, when required in accordance with this Act to produce any book, document, or other thing, in his or her possession or under his or her control to perform any act, refuses or fails to do so; commits an offence," reads the Act in part. 

"A person who commits an offence under this Act for which no specific penalty is provided shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars."
