President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has proposed amendments to the party structure and top leadership.

In the changes proposed by Vice Chair Omar Hassan during the National Governing Council (NGC) held at Bomas of Kenya, Deputy governors will join the County Government Caucus of the party.

Hassan indicated that the move is aimed at involving the deputy governors in the affairs and governance of the ruling party.

On the other hand, the party has noted that leaders eyeing the county chairperson position will vie without running mates so as to ensure gender balance in the party structure.

In the changes, the first runners-up of the opposite gender will automatically assume the position of the deputy county chairperson.

"Currently, there are only 7 officials at the Constituency Committee.  We are increasing it to 13," Hassan remarked.

The constituency Committee officials will include a chairperson, secretary, treasurer, and three representatives of youth, women, and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD).

The 7 selected constituency leaders will automatically become part of the party's top decision-making organ - the National Delegates Conference (NDC).

On the other hand, Ruto called on party members intending to hold positions in the party to prepare for the elections which are set to be held later in the year.

The Head of State elucidated that the ruling party was holding the primaries in advance to mitigate potential fallouts that may result from the mini-polls.

He added that no candidate would be favoured in the party elections noting that the 7.2 million members will have the final say on the officials.

"Even as the party leader, nobody has chosen me. The members of the party have not decided and they must have a say. There are people who are saying that this is not the right time and that we should wait. This is the time."

"We cannot have the elections close to the General Election. Won't we find challenges? " he posed.
