Trans Nzoia Deputy Governor Philomena Kapkory abandoned her office yesterday, Wednesday, October 4, citing threats from junior staff.

In a letter addressed to her boss, Governor George Natembeya, Kapkory stated that she would discharge her duties from home or another residence in Nairobi.

"Based on many threatening messages towards me from your staff and of which you are aware, I fear for my life," she addressed the governor.

"My security at the county is highly compromised and therefore, I will not be able to discharge my duties from the county until further notice."

The Deputy Governor stated that she was not quitting her job but would keep away from the county headquarters until Natembeya assured her of her security.

"I am available by phone and email and if there is a County Office in Nairobi, I can work from here until I am convinced that it is safe to come," her complaint letter read in part.

An insider at Trans Nzoia County told Kenyans.co.ke that Kapkory's tribulations stemmed from a memorandum submitted to the National Dialogue Committee (NDC) calling for the creation of Mt. Elgon County to be hived from Trans Nzoia.

In the memorandum, a section of residents from Trans Nzoia County lobbied for the creation of an extra county citing marginalisation.

While the Deputy Governor was not present when the petition was filed, she was accused by a section of junior staff of financing and secretly supporting the move

The harassment escalated to social media platforms where some Trans Nzoia residents threatened her against setting foot in office.

"Their argument was that she could not on one hand push for secession and on the other hand continue serving as Deputy Governor," the insider told Kenyans.co.ke.

In one of the WhatsApp messages, one online user could be seen telling off Kapkory, asking her to go and act as the Deputy Governor of Mt Elgon County.

Meanwhile, Governor Natembeya is yet to publicly condemn the threats or address the plight of his deputy
