Migori Town residents are living in fear following the death of three night guards on Friday night, October 6.
Speaking to the press on Saturday, the residents stated that the demise of the trio was alarming as their bodies were found spread across the town.
One of the dead bodies was retrieved from a river, the other was found lying on a corridor of an unidentified house, and the third was meters away from the two.
Police were yet to arrive at the crime scenes nor commence investigations into the murders. The cause of death and motive behind the murders were also yet to be disclosed by the time of publishing this article.
Residents thus accused the police of negligence and laxity, claiming they were slow in responding to emergency calls.
“Security in our county has not been good if three people can be killed, yet the police with guns are within the murder premises. Now we are being killed like animals [sic]," one resident lamented.
Another attributed the rise of murder incidents to police failing to patrol the town.
They thus demanded an explanation from the county administrative personnel and also urged the Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, to enhance security in the region.
Others called for an immediate intervention by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki.
Kindiki was urged to advise President William Ruto against deploying 1,000 policemen to Haiti on a peacekeeping mission but rather prioritise the country's security.
"Why are they taking over 1000 policemen to Haiti and yet we lack adequate security?" Migori residents questioned the government's decision.
Police have yet to release a statement on the murders nor responded to the resident's demands.
