A video of a police officer attempting to drag a motorist out of a vehicle has elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans.
The video reportedly recorded in Mombasa, captured the police officer forcing the truck driver to alight from the vehicle for reasons yet to be identified.
Minutes later, the confrontation escalated after the driver defied the orders, forcing the traffic police to hop into the vehicle in an attempt to eject him.
However, the officer's efforts were futile, forcing him to alight and call for backup.
"No one has hit you, but alight from the vehicle," the police stated before calling for backup.
Meanwhile, the driver, who clutched the steering wheel, demanded to know the offence he had committed.
"What are you looking for here? Please record this, what have I done?" the driver questioned while the cop grabbed him by the collar.
"What mistake have I made? I am not alighting! I have said I am not alighting," the driver responded, hoping the police would listen to his pleas.
However, the officer assumed the series of questions as he stood his ground. As the back and forth between the two ensued the driver countered, insisting that he would only alight upon learning his offence.
The passenger in the front seat also questioned the officer's action and sought clarification on why the driver was being assaulted.
A section of Kenyans also weighed in on the incident, with some accusing traffic officers of harassing innocent motorists on the road.
Others questioned why he attempted to drag the driver out of the vehicle, yet the duo could resolve their issue peacefully.
In February this year, a police officer was run over by a driver while he attempted to force his way into the vehicle. The officer, who sustained crucial injuries on his head and pelvis, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Jocham Hospital, where he had sought emergency treatment.
The motorist was arrested after investigations into the case commenced.
