Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday said he will actively stop Azimio leader Raila Odinga from leading anti-government demonstrations.
Speaking at a church service in Kajiado County, Kalonzo stated that the duty to check the government from excesses does not solely lie with the opposition adding that Kenyans have a duty to stand up for themselves.
The Wiper Party Leader was responding to calls from the clergy asking the opposition bigwig to check the government over perceived excesses such as the arbitrary introduction of new taxes.
''You have asked Raila not to relax and keep quiet, it's not just Raila and Kalonzo that should be advocating for the rights''
Earlier in the week, during his visit to the Mavoko demolitions site, Raila Odinga condemned the government's move to demolish property threatening to act if the government does not stop.
''You can't wait for just Kalonzo and Raila and Kalonzo to go back to demonstrations, I can't allow Raila to go back to demonstrations, let the country do it,'' he stated
Kalonzo further claimed that during the anti-government protests earlier in the year, there were deliberate efforts to assassinate Raila.
He further stated that it is the same demonstrations that led to the ongoing ceasefire talks. The Wiper Party leader asked the government side to be sincere in the dialogue.
The Azimio Co principal further castigated the government over the Mavoko demolitions adding that the government should have considered the livelihoods of the affected families.
''We will advocate for our rights in a way that does not depict us as lesser citizens but as equal under the law,'' Kalonzo further stated.
Speaking at the same event NARC Party Leader Martha Karua defended the demonstrations, saying that she is ready to take back to the streets when called upon.
"My brother Kalonzo, I'm not saying I will not go to the streets. If it becomes necessary I will," the NARC party leader stated.
