A fourth-year student at Multimedia University was found dead on Sunday.

Reports indicate that the young man's lifeless body was discovered in the hostel washroom, where he had taken his own life by hanging from the ceiling.

The incident unfolded after the student declined an invitation to go out with his friends to Ongata Rongai.

Those familiar with the situation revealed that the young man was calm and collected and showed no signs of distress prior to his death.

When his friends urged him to join them for a night out, he insisted on staying indoors.

Around 2 a.m., the deceased inquired if his friends would be returning soon before retreating to his hostel.

Reportedly, this was the last interaction with his friends before the student took his own life.

After discovering his body, his friends promptly informed the school management, which contacted the police. His body was then transported to the morgue in preparation for the funeral.

"This was so sudden, his friends were in shock. He was a cool person doing his own things without bothering others. He was upbeat, jovial, and open with others but this time, it appears he was unable to share the problem," one of the friends remarked.

In a message, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Paul Mbatia extended condolences to the deceased's family emphasising the importance of prioritising mental health within the institution.

A letter from the university, seen by Kenyans.co.ke, showed that the university is laying down plans to address mental health among students at the institution.

"We encourage you to reach out if you need to talk, seek support, or share your feelings. Our doors are open and we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for every individual within the school," read the letter in parts.

Additionally, the patron, Victor Mwania, called upon students to gather at the school stadium on Tuesday at noon to pay their respects to the deceased.

Meanwhile, text messages between the deceased and one of his friends showed that he had previously asked for help, stating that things were getting rough for him.

"Currently at my lowest, will appreciate your prayers," he texted.

He also disclosed that some of the issues he was facing revolved around family, school, finances, and mental health.

"It's a harsh world," one of the chats showed.

Counselors, medics, and psychologists advise that you can always reach out for help when experiencing any mental health issues. Call Kenya Red Cross toll-free hotline, 1199, for support.
