Machakos County health executive Daniel Yumbya has clarified claims that a 6-year-old boy is dead after a botched surgery by an alleged fake doctor.

Speaking to local media, the boy’s father sought answers after his child was suddenly taken critically ill, yet he was scheduled for a simple operation on his swollen hand, at Machakos Level 5 hospital.

The health executive dismissed claims that the boy succumbed, insisting that he is still in critical condition.

“As we speak, the boy is in ICU and is being treated. I have no authority to explain his condition beyond that,” Yumbya stated.

He further urged those spreading misinformation on the boy’s condition to cease.

“The patient is in critical condition in the ICU and is being treated with available medicine. The doctors are trying their best to help him in this difficult time,” he insisted.

According to the health boss, the boy’s family was informed about their child’s condition.

However, speaking to local media, the boy's father explained that 40 minutes after the child was taken to the theatre for an operation, doctors told him that the boy’s condition had gotten worse with a suspected heart defect.

The child’s father suspected foul play since their reason for visiting the hospital was a procedure to remove a suspected cyst from the lad’s swollen hand.

“I asked the doctor what the problem was because my son has never had a condition since he was born,” the boy’s father remarked.

In vain, the father has been trying to seek answers on the sequence of events and the state of his son for more than a week.

“They told me to wait for a report but since that day I have not been given any updates on what happened,” he added.

Yumbya stated that he has no authority to speak on the health progress of the boy. He maintained that only the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) can make official clarification.
