Update: Red Cross Coast region boss Hassan Muya has confirmed the ongoing heavy rains have damaged parts of Coast houses.

He noted that the most affected areas include Utange and Kisauni.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has advised motorists against plying Ukunda-Lunga Lunga Road following heavy rains that covered the Perani Bridge.

In a statement, KeNHA noted that the flooding was caused by a rupture in River Perani, as a result of the ongoing heavy rains across the area.

Following the incident, the road was submerged which rendered it impassable for motorists, resulting in the halting of transportation over the bridge.

"In light of this, motorists are advised not to use the Road until the water levels recede and traffic returns to normalcy," read part of the statement.

Further, another advisory was issued in Mombasa on the overtopping of Mbani Bridge at KM 23+500 along Kwale – Kinango Road.

According to KeNHA, the Road is currently impassable as over 100 metres of the carriageway has been completely submerged.

This has, effectively, paralyzed transport along the bridge.

"Motorists are advised to exercise restraint and wait for the water levels to recede before traffic returns to normalcy," KeNHA added.

The incident highlights cases of flooding at various sections of Mombasa due to the ongoing heavy rains.

In the past weeks, photos and videos of motorists stranded in the Coastal town with their vehicles submerged in water have surfaced online.

To curb the crisis, KeNHA commenced the construction of drainage systems in the affected areas.

This, according to KeNHA, aligns with the government's commitment to ensure the safety of motorists in anticipation of the El Nino rains.
