According to reports, the operation foiled a terror attack against civilians and security personnel planned by the group.

"The successful operation thwarted planned Al Shabaab attacks against both civilians and security personnel in Garissa County," read part of the statement.

Following the incident, members of the public were urged to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities for action to be taken.

The team has scaled up operations and pursued high-profile suspects particularly in North Eastern to stop planned attacks.

Al Shabaab has been on the radar of Kenyan authorities for staging attacks in various parts of Kenya. More recently, the group has been flagged for planning attacks in Northern Kenya and along the Coastal belt.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has however vowed to crush Al Shabaab operations.

The CS went to the extent of releasing the names and photos of over 35 suspected terrorists believed to be responsible for various attacks across the country.

The CS also offered an incentive for Kenyans who may have information on the suspects.

Meanwhile, terrorism has been listed as one of the top threats to national prosperity.
