Four police officers attached to Kasagam Police Station in Kisumu County were on Friday subjected to mob justice by angry residents after they raided a home in the Kisumu East area.

According to a police report, the officers, who acted on a tip-off, conducted an operation in the area to capture suspects who were selling illicit brew.

However, Kisumu residents raised the alarm and gathered at the home, surrounding the four officers who had arrived on board a police van.

The angry mob confronted the officers, demanding they return to the station.

Three of the officers managed to escape from the melee, while one of them sustained dire injuries after being assaulted by the mob.

"One of the officers sustained two deep cuts on the head, two cuts on the left cheek below his eyes and swollen right cheek," read part of the report.

Nonetheless, the police called for backup, forcing the mob to scamper for safety. The police battalion then patrolled the scene to restore calm within the area.

They also rushed the injured cop to Blizz Medicare at Mega City for medical treatment.

Police stated that the cop was stabilising and doctors were monitoring his progress.

According to the report, no resident was arrested, but police launched an investigation into the matter and also launched a manhunt for key suspects.

The government has been tightening the fight against illicit brew amid growing concerns that more youth are getting trapped in the menace.

Through the National Police Service (NPS), officers have launched crackdowns on various estates and arrested traders engaging in the vice.
