Kenya Railways has released new prices for Nairobi Train Services following a review.
In a statement, Kenya Railways noted that the new prices cater for train services operating in various estates such as Kibera, Makadara, Kikuyu and Limuru.
The prices will take effect from January 1, 2024.
For Instance along the Nairobi - Embakasi route, train fares from the Nairobi Station to Makadara will be charged at Ksh40. While Donholm and Embakasi stops will be charged at Ksh50.
On the other hand, along the Nairobi - Syokimau route, Makadara, Imara Daima and Syokimau fares were put at Ksh40, Ksh50 and Ksh60 respectively.
Kenyans travelling to Mlolongo, Athi River and Lukenya from the Nairobi Station will, as of January 2024, pay Ksh60, Ksh70 and Ksh80 respectively.
Additionally along the Nairobi - Limuru route, fares to Kibera will be charged at Ksh40 for both peak and off-peak hours.
Kikuyu and Limuru train fares were set at Ksh60 and Ksh80 respectively.
Kenya Railways also reviewed train fares for the Nairobi - Nanyuki route which were set at Ksh1,000 for first class and Ksh400 for economy.
Fare from Nairobi to Thika was put at Ksh500 for first class and Ksh150 for economy class.
In the review, fares for the Nairobi - Kisumu train services were also increased. The first-class fares were increased from Ksh2,000 to Ksh2,400.
Economy class trains were increased by Ksh300 from the current Ksh600.
