The Kakamega Small Claims Court on Monday ordered Mumias East MP Peter Salasya to pay a businessman a Ksh500,000 debt.
The businessman had accused the Parliamentarian of refusing to pay the amount advanced to him in December 2022.
According to the businessman, Salasya was supposed to pay the amount in February.
During the court case, the businessman produced documents showing that he had advanced the money to Salasya via a local commercial bank.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Salasya maintained he was not going to pay the amount as ordered by the court and would instead appeal the ruling.
“This is a political witch hunt, I will be moving to court to appeal the ruling,” he told Kenyans.co.ke.
The Mumias East MP claimed that he does not owe the businessman any money arguing that the papers presented in court reflect a past transaction where the businessman in question channeled money to his account owed to him by a third party.
“How can the guy say I have to pay Ksh500,000 just because I used his account to transact,” Salasya claimed alleging that the businessman lied in court under oath.
Salasya stated that paying the amount would set a bad precedent where people would start extorting him.
He further claimed that senior Kakamega politicians were paying residents to come up with fictitious court cases to dim his political star.
This comes a week after Salasya and Kakamega Governor Fernandes and Salasya were involved in a public spat during a political function in Kakamega.
The whole spat ensued after Salasya accused the Governor of failing to do enough to revive the ailing sugar industry in the Western region.
Responding to the matter, Barasa retorted by stating that Mumias East had erred in electing a naive boy to an important position.
