Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa on Sunday castigated the people of Mumias East for electing Peter Salasya as their Member of Parliament.

The governor was speaking moments after goons attacked the parliamentarian during a church fundraising ceremony.

The MP was roughed up by goons after he claimed that Barasa was not lobbying and facilitating the revival of Mumias Sugar Company

“We need to respect the leaders who have come to help us fundraise for the church. Speaker (Moses Wetangula) while you were away there was chaos because of a boy we elected in Mumias East,” Barasa remarked.

“I take this opportunity to apologise to our visitors on behalf of Mumias East because they made a mistake by electing a clueless boy.”

Barasa stated that this was the first time that Salasya had to address a large audience and he did not have the decorum or capacity to handle such an event.

Barasa further asked National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to ensure Salasya’s bodyguards are disarmed.

He explained that they had broken the law by brandishing a pistol inside the church.

According to the first-term governor, Salsya had solely come to the event to cause chaos and not take part in the development agenda.

“Who comes to church and starts a fight and then runs away before making a donation?” Barasa asked.

Salasya had earlier thanked his bodyguards for ensuring that he was not harmed during the scuffle.

He further alleged that the goons who took away the mic from him when he was addressing congregants were working under Barasa’s instructions.
