The Azimio Parliamentary Group (PG) on Wednesday endorsed the recommendations submitted by the National Dialogue Committee (NDC).
However, despite describing the report as a good start, Azimio Chief Raila Odinga termed the document as incomplete since it did not address the most pertinent issues such as the cost of living.
Speaking after the PG meeting, Raila stated that Azimio will be engaging Kenyans further in the coming weeks to chart a way forward on the cost of living which Raila described as unbearable for most Kenyans.
“We have agreed to disagree on the most important matter to us. We made what we believed were reasonable proposals on how to address the rising cost of living. But the government side flatly refused terming it their exclusive business,” the Azimio leader remarked.
"The two teams were not able to agree on the need and means to reduce the cost of living, this is why we have described the document the committee presented as imperfect and unfinished" Raila further stated.
Raila further hinted at the possibility of a referendum which he stated would allow the coalition to legally entrench certain proposals such as the creation of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
"At all times we will retain the right to call on the people to take steps that we deem necessary to force the government to lower the cost of living," Raila remarked.
Raila also criticised the government's stand claiming that it will continue to effect Housing Levy deductions.
Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has claimed that the government will proceed to make the deductions despite the court order.
"Our delegation had called for the complete overhaul of the Finance Act 2023 which had come with harsh taxation measures that made lives unbearable at no expense to the government," Raila noted.
According to Raila, the court had already pronounced itself on the matter and any attempt to stray against the court's directions is unconstitutional.
The former Prime Minister called on the employers to stop the deductions with immediate effect.
