The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday revealed that it sought help from INTERPOL, an international organisation that facilitates worldwide police cooperation and crime control, to arrest five wanted criminals.
The individuals are suspected to be behind the killing of a teacher and a police officer in Siaya County on November 20.
DCI remarked that it was seeking the help of the international police force after the five suspected criminals escaped their dragnet on November 22.
As the DCI sought international help, it requested members of the public privy to the whereabouts of the suspected criminals to share the information with investigative agencies.
“The police are also extending their investigations to the neighbouring countries,” DCI explained the scope of the investigation.
According to DCI, the victims were murdered while investigating and supervising the just-concluded Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
The mastermind of the attack is believed to be the leader of a criminal gang based in the Hawinga area in Siaya County.
Before he joined the world of crime, the ringleader earned a livelihood as a fisherman at Ogangara Beach in the region.
Another suspect is believed to have fled Nairobi after committing crimes in the Baba Dogo area to join the criminal gang in Hawinga.
DCI further revealed that another suspect was also wanted for terrorising businessmen in Kisumu, Busia and Siaya Counties.
“They may be armed and hence dangerous,” members of the public were warned.
On November 22, two suspects connected to the murder were gunned down by DCI officers in Alego Usonga, Siaya County.
