At least two officers attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) on Monday were killed after their car ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Reports indicated that the officers were heading to Garissa to provide security to candidates sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

Several other officers were also injured and rushed to Dadaab Hospital for urgent treatment.

The attack occurred at Ege Dam along the Dadaab-Garissa road, leaving some officers in critical condition.

The vehicle's front part was damaged following the impact of the accident.

It is suspected that the IED was planted by Al Shabaab militants who have launched attacks in the Northern part of the country.

Al Shabaab attacks in the north have been rampant with several innocent Kenyans losing their lives.

The government through Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and his Defence counterpart Aden Duale have vowed to end the attacks and bring all those responsible to book.

In October, Kindiki published the names and photos of the 35 most wanted terrorists responsible for various attacks in Kenya.

Meanwhile, as national exams kick off in the country, several challenges have been faced especially in some areas where heavy rainfall has hindered transportation of exam materials.

President William Ruto and Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Monday toured a school in Kiambu County to pray for the pupils before the exams.

"Be confident and do your best. Carry out the exam knowing very well we have an opportunity for each and every child of Kenya as you move to the next stage," Ruto remarked.
