London Prosecutors have initiated the trial of 2 teenagers accused of murdering an 18-year-old in Ipswich Town, located in the Eastern part of England earlier this year.
Alfie Hammett, 19, and Joshua Howell, 18, are accused of stabbing Raymond James Quigley to death in Westgate Street, on January 17, 2023, even though Howell and Hammett, who were 17 and 18, respectively, at the time, were arrested on January 21, 2023.
Hammet on seeing a police officer outside his house, performed a factory reset on his phone.
Meanwhile, Howell visited his mother, transferred a large amount of money to another bank account, and then booked a one-way ticket to Nairobi.
Police however arrested him before he could make the trip.
The deceased, by the time of his death, was in Ipswich Town to visit a friend and was walking him when he was attacked outside Westgate Street.
CCTV footage gathered by police showed the movement of two men alleged to be Hammet and Howell, walking through the town center wearing masks and hoods.
One male ran towards Mr. Quigler with a knife while the other chased down one of his friends with a machete.
Mr. Quigler fell after suffering four stabs, and fatal blows to his chest and abdomen.
The prosecutors identified Hammet to have attacked Mr. Quigley and Howell to have chased after his friend.
After the incident, they both fled town using the same route they took.
Hammet later removed his clothes near an alleyway while Hollet was spotted without a mask in a nearby street shortly after the incident.
The trial is set to be heard again on January 24, 2024.
