Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Monday announced that the 2024 Form One cohort will report to their new institutions on Monday, January 15.

Machogu made the announcement while presiding over the release of form one placement results at the Lenana School in Nairobi.

He added that all 1.4 million candidates who sat the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) were placed in varied schools further noting that the selection process was strictly guided by principles of merit.

“Today I wish to announce that the eligible 2023 candidates have been placed in all our public secondary schools, however, all over 80 learners have been forwarded to the directorate of adult and continuing education for placement in adult continuing education institutions,” Machogu announced.

According to Machogu, once a student downloads the joining instructions, they must present the joining letter to the head teacher of the primary school where they sat their examination for authentication.

“Principals are advised to confirm that letters presented to them belong to learners who will strictly be on their selection list," the CS noted.

The CS noted students were placed in schools of equivalent standing outside their counties. This includes those from counties with inadequate capacity.

While addressing the delegation at Lenana, Machogu noted candidates who secured more than 400 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) were placed in national and extra-county schools of choice

The CS also issued a directive to Regional Directors of Education and County Education Directors to ensure that principals of secondary schools do not impose additional levies on parents beyond what the Ministry of Education has stipulated.

According to the CS, the Constitution obligates the government to provide free and compulsory education, further noting that additional levies deny children of poor parents access to education.

Meanwhile, the Form One placement results can be accessed by visiting the Ministry of Education portal: education.go.ke or kemis.education.go.ke.

Placement, according to Machogu, was done earlier and before Christmas to allow parents to have an ample time planning for their children's Form One enrollment.
