A woman at Mukulusu village, Shinyalu sub-county, in Kakamega, plunged herself into a flooded river with her twins.

According to eyewitnesses, the 34-year-old threw herself into River Isiukhu carrying her children, forcing locals to dive in to save them.

“We saw her hand lying against a rock with her body and legs submerged in the water. One of us got into the water and found her still alive,” the witness narrated.

According to the said witness, the woman was rushed to hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, one of her children was later retrieved from the river, dead.

“One of the twins was found and taken to the mortuary. We have not been able to find the other one,” he further stated.

The twins' grandmother stated that her daughter-in-law had left her matrimonial home to attend a funeral alongside her twins.

“I am so sad to lose my grandchildren. I wished them farewell when they left, hoping that they would come back safely, only to get the news of their demise,” she lamented.

The grieving granny suspected that the woman may have been embroiled in a conflict that drove her to throw herself and her children into the river.

Her relatives urged well-wishers to come to their aid and help them in tracing the lost child and also cater for funeral expenses.

“We accumulated bills at the hospital as well as at the mortuary that I cannot be able to afford. I urge well-wishers to come and help,” the father of the twins pleaded.

“We cannot bury one of the twins alone. We need to find the other one so that they can be buried together,” he added.

It was yet to be clear whether police had launched investigations to ascertain the motive behind the woman's incident.
