The Kenya Red Cross on Thursday, January 11, dismissed a notice advertising over 3,000 job vacancies at the organisation.
In a statement, the agency urged Kenyans to be aware of the scammers, noting that the advertised jobs were fake.
“The Kenya Red Cross Society warns members of the public not to fall victim to this fake recruitment exercise,” the statement read.
“Stay vigilant and beware of such fraudulent posters.”
The notice doing rounds on social media highlighted several jobs ranging from migration officers, drivers, social workers, accountants and many more, advising Kenyans to apply for the vacancies before January 15.
According to the scammers, there was a need for new Red Cross staff to help salvage the effects of climate change in Kenya.
“Due to the current inevitable climate change experienced in the nation, Kenya Red Cross Society do hereby advertise for numerous positions,” the notice further stated.
During the floods caused by El Nino rains, the Red Cross responded to victims' calls, distributed utilities to affected areas and liaised with other organisations to share timely and helpful information to motorists.
Red Cross further directed job seekers to apply for jobs through the right channels provided by the organisation.
“Legitimate job opportunities with us are exclusively posted on our website,” the organisation added.
The clarification comes a day after the Higher Education and Loans Board (HELB) flagged a fake notice, informing students to seek alternative sources for their education funds as it was temporarily halting fund disbursement.
