The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has warned fake news merchants against propagating claims that are injurious to the education sector.

As controversy continues to rock the recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, KNEC flagged reports claiming that it graded a student who passed away before sitting exams.

On Friday, the exam body was forced to address allegations of grading the student in biology and an X in other exams, indicating that the student missed the said papers.

KNEC which termed the post as fake, noted that the said results did not emanate from its portal.

The post which was circulated widely on social media claimed that KNEC allegedly awarded the student a grade D minus in Biology.

"This boy reportedly died before KCSE exams began, but somehow he pulled a mama Rosa, resurrected, sat the biology paper, and scored a D-, maybe because he couldn't revise in the grave because of darkness," claimed a tweet.

"The only thing that works efficiently in this country is corruption. The country is in the hands of quacks," the tweet added.

KNEC has been under pressure to clarify KCSE exam results after students and schools complained of downloading results with multiple different grades.

In the photos shared by concerned parties, several schools and even students received contradicting results after logging into the KNEC portal. In one scenario, a student downloaded his results twice and received an A- in one and a B+ in another.

"Parents do not sleep. The results are changing every minute. You blink, it goes to A, blink again, and it will be an E," Homa Bay Member of Parliament George Kaluma alleged.

Some Kenyans further questioned why the results were labelled as provisional.

"They are changing results all the time like Jose Carmago's election results," Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai trolled the exam body.

Meanwhile, President William Ruto ordered investigations into cases of 3,143 students who registered for KCSE exams but failed to sit for the papers.
