Families from Kinangop, in Nyandarua County, were left in a dilemma after heavy rainfall destroyed their houses and other property in the area.
The area has been experiencing heavy rainfall coupled with hailstorms, rendering certain residences uninhabitable. Some houses are now covered in hailstones.
On Monday night, the rainfall disrupted the electricity supply in the area compounding the challenges area residents are currently experiencing.
Economic activities have also been disrupted; with most roads in a sorry state. Crops across most farms have also been destroyed.
Residents are also counting losses, with some livestock being affected by the heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Nyandarua is not the only county affected by the ongoing rainfall, with Nairobi residents dealing with the effects of the extreme weather conditions.
Over the weekend, the capital was flooded, a situation which culminated in most residents being stranded at the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) for long hours due to transport paralysis. Residents living in lowland areas were also forced to evacuate.
Elsewhere in Narok, River Ewaso Nyiro River broke its banks resulting in flooding. Pit latrines and a newly built market collapsed due to the floods.
Across various other regions in the country, deaths from flooding were also reported.
Kenya Met also published a report outlining that some parts of the country including Nairobi will experience isolated storms.
"Rainfall is expected over the southern half of the country. Most parts of North-eastern and North-western Kenya are likely to be generally dry," the department stated.
"Between January 16 and January 22, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County, the South-eastern lowlands, and the South Rift Valley," the report read.
