The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has listed areas expected to experience week-long heavy rains warning residents to brace themselves for storms.

In a weather update on Saturday, January 13, the Kenya Met revealed that rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country between January 14, and January 20.

According to Kenya Met's update, some areas including the Central Highlands of the Rift Valley including Nairobi will experience storms.

Counties lying along the Lake Victoria Basin and parts of Western Kenya will also experience high precipitations.

The weatherman added that other parts of the country such as the Coast region and Southwest Lowland will also experience heavy rainfall.

However, the northern parts of the country are expected to be generally hot and dry.

The weatherman further reported that the rains are also expected to occasionally spread into the counties of Isiolo, and Samburu

Kenyans were, therefore, advised to be aware and brace themselves for the upcoming weather as the authority keeps them updated on the changes in weather patterns.

Toward the end of 2023, meteorologists had predicted that the country would experience El Nino rains until December.

However, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) issued a warning that El Nino rains will continue until April 2024

With this, the authority clarified that El Nino rains averagely do last for nine to 12 months.

Since then, government and non-governmental bodies have come forth to issue advisories and to help victims affected by the ongoing floods.
