Kenya and Iran are set to enjoy technological collaboration to boost developments in the two countries.

Speaking during a meeting with Kenya’s ambassador in Tehran, Joshua Igweta, on Saturday, the head of Tehran University’s Science and Technology Park, Ali Asadi expressed his anticipation of the partnership.

In the plan, Tehran University’s knowledge-based companies will participate in the 41st International Association of Science Parkes and Areas of Innovation (IASP) innovation conference in Nairobi in September 2024.

“We are trying to develop technological cooperation with Kenya,” Asadi said.

Igweta concurring with Ali’s sentiments stated that he was hopeful the relationship between the two countries would enhance scientific development, adding that measures will be put in place to ensure cooperation between the two nations.

“Kenya welcomes Iranian knowledge-based companies’ technology and knowledge to be shared with its start-up companies,” he stated.

The two leaders further highlighted the capabilities and capacities that the two countries hold, in the hope that they would complement each other in making strides in the technological space.

The 41st IASP World Conference with the theme “Demographics, entrepreneurship, and Technology: defining the Frontiers of Future Economies,” will be held at the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC), as Nairobi is ranked as the second best startup ecosystem in Africa after Lagos.

The theme seeks to uphold and harness the potential in African cities, tapping into their entrepreneurship skills for economic growth.

President William Ruto in July 2023 hosted Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi in Nairobi, where the two leaders agreed to work towards deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two countries signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in areas of cooperation including ICT, fisheries, animal health, and investment promotion.

The Kenyan government in December issued good manufacturing certificates (GMP) to eleven Iranian firms in the health and medical care sector, clearing them to export their products to Kenya.
