One of the Nigerian suspects who was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the murder of 20-year-old Rita Waeni lived an opulent lifestyle while in Kenya.

Photos surfacing on social media showed the suspect, identified as W.O., tended to party alongside friends, dress in designer clothes as well as indulge in expensive alcohol.

Additional photos also showed women's purses within the suspect's residence, suggesting a tendency to socialize and engage in festivities with ladies.

A spot check across his social platforms by Kenyans.co.ke reveals that the suspect allegedly either operates or markets a company that linked to stem cell therapy technology products.

"We offer a great mentoring program for our members with top executives. We are on the cutting-edge technology. You will be working with the best equipment of software in your web system," read part of the advertisement posted on the suspect's platform.

In various posts, he advertised jobs in the company, seeking a business analyst to either work full-time or part-time, with a monthly salary ranging from Ksh37,000 to Ksh51,000.

The offer also included competitive packages and generous bonus programs.

Questions have since been raised over W.O.'s connection with the man pictured on the CCTV footage who was said to be of light complexion.

However, some photos posted online showed the two suspects captured with a friend who had a similar skin tone to the one on the CCTV footage. Kenyans online called on detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to probe the photos further and even investigate the tweep sharing them.

The Nigerian suspects were arrested on Sunday after police officers traced them to a flat in Ndenderu in Kiambu, not far from where a head believed to be that of Rita Waeni was recovered.

At the house, the detectives recovered a hatchet, butcher's knife, three laptops, six mobile phones, a Kenyan national identity card and 10 sim cards.

The two suspects were arraigned at Makadara Law Courts on Monday, whereby the prosecution sought orders to detain the duo for eight days at Kasarani Police Stations to conclude investigations.

During the court proceedings, one of the suspects claimed that he purchased the hatchet for self-defence.

Further, the prosecution revealed that the two Nigerian nationals were in the country illegally, as W.O.'s passport had expired while his counterpart lacked travel documents, claiming to have lost it in 2022.

The prosecution's request to detain the suspects until January 31, 2024, was granted by Senior Principal Magistrate Agnes Mwangi.

Meanwhile, a foreigner who was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) suspected to be the serial killer in Waeni's murder case was released.
