Kenyans will soon be able to track the progress of the construction of affordable houses in new reforms unveiled during the ongoing government performance delivery roadshow.

In a statement released by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria after meeting the Ministry of Lands officials on Tuesday, it was revealed that the government would set up a public portal that will provide Kenyans with real-time data on the houses.

The plan is aimed at making Kenyans feel included in the process given that they are making contributions towards the construction of the houses.

Currently, employed Kenyans have been parting ways with Ksh1.5 per cent of their salary for the programme even as the government moves to roll out the deductions to the informal sector.

According to the Ministry of Lands under Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, 30,000 houses will be completed by June 2025.

On the other hand, Kenyans will, also be able to keep track of jobs that have been created through President William Ruto's housing agenda.

"Our affordable housing project is not just about houses. It's more about jobs. 2023 saw 110,000 Kenyans working on the affordable housing projects. In 2024, this will rise to 750,000 jobs," Kuria stated.

The government is aiming to inject Ksh120 billion into the economy through the programme.

"We commit to developing a national multi-purpose cadastre and complete digitization for Murang'a and Mombasa land registries, "read the statement in part.

In another 15 counties, the government will roll out the digitisation of land records. Currently, only Nairobi has a fully digitised system.

President William Ruto has continuously declared that his housing agenda would be successful despite facing constant criticism and opposition.

Ruto, in early January this year, accused the Judiciary and opposition of colluding to frustrate his programme in courts. This was after the courts suspended the Housing Levy until January 26.
