Moja Expressway on Wednesday warned motorists of a 5-day traffic disruption at a section of the Nairobi Expressway over planned maintenance works at one of the entrances which will disrupt traffic.
In a notice, the company which manages the elevated road announced scheduled maintenance work for the Haile Selassie Toll Station Entrance B next to the Kenya Railways Museum. The disruption will run from Thursday, January 25 to Tuesday, January 30 and will disrupt traffic in one of the lanes.
As such, the company warned motorists plying the route of traffic snarl-ups. The company also advised road users to plan their trips accordingly to avoid inconveniences.
"Please drive with caution around the maintenance area. Thank you for choosing the Nairobi Expressway," read part of the statement.
However, Moja Expressway did not reveal the specific maintenance being carried out at the entrance.
Notably, at least 65,000 vehicles use the Nairobi Expressway daily. Since the elevated road was launched in 2022, over 10 million vehicles have used it.
It was introduced to ease traffic in the city and slash the commute time for motorists. Motorists are charged a fee depending on the distance covered.
Recently, the government opened a new exit at Haile Selassie, to divert motorists to the Greenpark for testing trials. It is also expected to reduce the traffic further.
"Say goodbye to traffic with enhanced comfort, convenience, and seamless connectivity as we launch this crucial addition to the Nairobi Expressway," Moja Expressway announced.
In December 2023, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced plans to add two more lanes from the current three at the Museum Hill exit.
While opening the new exit last week, Murkomen explained that it would serve those entering the Nairobi Central Business District.
"The seat of government was not being served by the Expressway easily and as a result, we have fulfilled that promise today," Murkomen remarked.
