The Nairobi Expressway will today launch the new exit at Haile Selassie in an effort to ease traffic in the city.

Moja Expressway, the company managing the highway, on Saturday, stated that the opening will be conducted on a trial phase from Saturday, January 20.

Featuring five lanes, the new exit will help reduce traffic congestion between the Capital Centre and the Haile Selassie Roundabout.

Motorists heading to Nairobi’s Central Business District, Upper Hill, and Ngong Road will thus enjoy smooth traffic, according to Moja Expressway.

"Say goodbye to traffic with enhanced comfort, convenience, and seamless connectivity as we launch this crucial addition to the Nairobi Expressway. Thank you for choosing us," Moja Expressway detailed.

The new Haile Selassie exit is located at Green Park with 5 toll lanes, and the purpose of this exit is to cater to traffic going to CBD and City Center.

It has two directions, one direction is going to Processional Way then left into Haile Selassie Avenue, and the other one is a right turn from the Toll Station then on to A8 towards Kenyatta Avenue Roundabout.

Transport and Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is expected to launch the exit today as the company continues to compile data and feedback.

“There are also plans to add two more lanes, from the current three, at the Museum Hill exit. The Nairobi Expressway is a shining monument to what private-public partnerships can do,” CS Murkomen stated in December.

Motorists were encouraged to use the road in the trial phase as the adjustments continued to be made.

The new plaza will now raise the total number of plazas along the expressway to 28 from its initial count of 27.

However, Moja Expressway did not reveal if it will introduce new toll charges for the exit at different entry points along the expressway.
