The much-awaited Nairobi Expressway is slated to be opened on a trial basis on Saturday, May 14, ending months of anticipation among motorists eager to use the 27.1 kilometre road.

The elevated road, built at a whopping cost of Ksh88 billion, is expected to ease traffic, especially along the busy Mombasa Road, and link Westlands to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

To use the road, motorists will have to register access to the Manual Toll Card (MTC) and Electronic Toll Card (ETC) as an alternative to the cash mode of payment. At the moment, mobile money payments are not allowed.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, an official of Moja Expressway company, a subsidiary of China Road and Bridge Corporation that is tasked with managing the road for 27 years, gave a breakdown of the list of all toll stations, along with their entry and exit points.

"There are a total of 11 toll stations and 27 toll plazas. The difference between the two is that the plaza comprises the entrance and exit routes while the stations encompass the two," the official stated.
