Students of St. Marks Primary School in Meru praised President William Ruto with a rendition of a popular song that was composed to motivate freedom fighters during the pre-independence period.

The Pupils sang a reinvention of the popular song Wimbo wa Historia.

Wimbo wa Historia highlights the tribulations of first President Jomo Kenyatta and the other Kapenguria Six detainees when they were apprehended in 1952 and detained without trial.

Unlike the original song which carries a sombre mood with the lyrics remembering suffering and struggle for independence, the pupils tweaked it to praise Ruto for his dedication as a leader.

Through the song, they expressed their love and gratitude to the president as a school for aiding them to lead in academics within their region.

They further expressed how the President facilitated development at the school after he was disappointed by its pathetic state on his first visit.

Asante Raisi wetu, Tena Ee Asante (Thank you our president, thanks again). Tunaomba Mungu wetu akulinde uendelee kuongoza nchi yetu hapa Kenya (We pray that God blesses you to continue leading the nation),” they sang in part.

Umetutoa mbali sana kiuchumi tunaona mwangaza wa kupendeza mbele yetu (You have lifted us economically, we can see light ahead). Woi Woi Mola akulinde daima na milele (God protect you always)”

President Ruto was in the school for the official opening of the classes that the government had constructed as he continued with his tour of the county.

“I have seen many old classes back there, I have decided to build the school afresh so that pupils can get a nice place to learn,” President Ruto stated.

He reiterated the government's commitment to ensure every child gets an opportunity to learn and secure their future and that of the nation.

Earlier, he vowed to continue with his Affordable Housing agenda despite the Court of Appeal declaring the levy unconstitutional pending the determination of cases filed before it.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichungwa were among the leaders who accompanied Ruto on his tour.

Meanwhile, the original song Wimbo wa Historia was composed by Kenyan songwriter Enock Ondego, the founder of The Mwakigwena Choir Group. Enock was also the writer of the famous Kenya Ni Nchi Ya Ajabu
