Despite President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua urging youthful politicians to lessen competition for 2027 slots, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has continued to draw criticism with his heightened tours.
Over the last week, Nyoro, who was the main target of Ruto and Gachagua's warning, maintained a series of tours across the country including engaging delegates from other constituencies.
On Friday, January 26, Nyoro toured Malindi for the launch of a school at the invitation of his Garsen counterpart, Ali Wario.
“Touch down Malindi on the way to Garsen Constituency, Tana River County for a series of development projects. Welcomed by Garsen MP Hon Ali Wario and Hon Rehema Hassan,” Nyoro stated via his social media pages.
On Thursday he held a meeting with the Council of Governors Chairperson Anne Waiguru, and governors Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Stephen Sang (Nandi) and Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri).
The meeting centred on unlocking the County Government's Additional Allocation Bill did not augur well with a section of UDA leaders who even referred to the meeting as ‘null and void’.
Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa expressed his concerns against the MP meeting with the Council of Governors alone on a matter of national interest.
“My concern lies in understanding why Ndindi would engage with the Council of Governors alone regarding a contested matter, akin to a judge meeting a suspect or witness before a hearing,” Karungo stated in response.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale further condemned Nyoro arguing that the meeting harboured selfish interests.
“You are leading the National Assembly team, and I am leading the Senate team at these important mediation talks. Meeting the governors alone is the best way how not to make the mediation talks succeed. Learn from the best,” Khalwale lamented.
On Monday, he visited Mwingi West Constituency with the area MP Charles Ngusya Nguna at Kiomo Secondary School where they issued bursaries and presented a school bus. The event was also attended by Kitui woman representative Irene Kasalu.
Last week, he hosted a delegation from Amakuriat Catholic Parish, Kacheliba Constituency, West Pokot led by Kacheliba MP Titus Lotee.
Additionally, the Kiharu MP was in Marsabit County where he joined his North Horr counterpart Wario Guyo on January 13, during the launch of the Wezesha Masomo (WEMA) programme at Chalbi Boys High School.
Nyoro also attended the send-off of Mzee Joseph Kipkemei, the father of MP Justice Kemei in Kericho on Saturday, January 20.
President William Ruto while commenting on the matter of succession politics warned UDA party membership against taking part in politics at the moment.
While speaking on Tuesday in Gilgil, Nakuru, Ruto urged leaders to focus on developing the country in their various roles. He added that engaging in the 2027 succession politics was akin to insulting Kenyans.
Several UDA and Kenya Kwanza politicians touted Nyoro as DP Gachagua's successor in 2027, leading to the emergence of several factions.
