Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was called out on Saturday for quoting Ksh700 million for each government project.
This came after he announced it would cost Ksh700 million to install toll stations on major highways.
Kenyans referenced the various times the CS has used the '700' figure to quote funds needed to undertake various projects.
In July 2023, Murkomen revealed that it would require Ksh700 million to repair damages caused to the Nairobi Expressway following nationwide protests.
A section of Kenyans opined that the figures quoted were exaggerated to misuse public funds.
Others opined that a few government officials were out of touch with reality leading them to quote high figures for government projects.
Meanwhile, others jokingly remarked that 700 may be his lucky number hence the tendency to use it.
President William Ruto was also called out for referring to 120,000 when talking about Kenyans who have secured digital jobs, employment through the affordable housing plan, and jobs from the agricultural sector.
On Murkomen, besides the funds for the repairs and toll stations, in December last year, the CS announced that it would require Ksh700 billion to complete ongoing road projects.
"Out of the Ksh700 billion required, Ksh150 billion is pending bills for road works that are already done while we have in this year's budget only Ksh46 billion for it," Murkomen revealed.
He also approved a Ksh700 million bonus payment for Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) employees.
CS Murkomen's proposal has been met with criticism from Kenyans who decried the high cost of living and misappropriation of public funds.
