A month after Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced that he was going to deal with staffing challenges bedevilling the aviation industry, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has begun hiring a new team.

In an advertisement carried by the Tuesday edition of MyGov, KAA announced that it was seeking to employ 105 individuals on a contractual basis.

Successful applicants will be posted to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and other airports across the country.

KAA is the sole Authority in the country that provides facilitative infrastructure for aviation services in Kenya.

“Guided by its mandate, the Authority is seeking to recruit competent and self-driven persons to fill the position of firefighter,” the advert read in part.

KAA seeks to hire 75 firefighters under job grade S3 and they will work under a one-year contract term.

Additionally, KAA will employ 30 Apron Controllers under the same contractual terms.

“The detailed job descriptions, requirements for appointment and instructions on how to apply can be accessed on KAA's website www.kaa.go.ke under the careers section,” KAA advised interested applicants.

On December 21, CS Murkomen promised that he would bridge the human resource gap at JKIA by adding more personnel.

This was after receiving a report by the Multi-Sectoral Technical Committee that was chaired by Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Director Walter Ogolla.

“KAA has been struggling with a disorganized and demoralised workforce with no clearly defined roles and succession plan,” he added then.

Murkomen further promised to review the existing contracts of employees of Jomo Kenyatta, Moi and Kisumu international airports.
