Mary Muiruri, an Actuarial Science graduate from Egerton University has opened up on receiving a job opportunity to intern with a US-based company remotely.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Muiruri, who went viral on Thursday last week after she was captured holding a placard along Thika Road while appealing for a job, confirmed that the opportunity was accorded to someone else.

She disputed claims alleging that the offer was to work in the United States, pointing out that the job opportunity was a chance to work remotely.

A tweet went viral on Tuesday evening suggesting that Muiruri had landed a job as a data analyst in the US.

"Just seen this babe got a job as a data analyst in the US. So happy to see social media work like this," a tweep claimed.

The Egerton graduate pointed out that she was looking into opportunities that she had received five days after her plight went viral.

On Thursday, January 25, Muiruri took to the streets, highlighting her credentials to prospective employers.

She also highlighted her qualifications which trended online and painted a grim picture of the challenges facing jobless youths countrywide.

From graduating with Google Data Analytics, Data Analytics and Visualisation, Advanced SQL, Excel, to Microsoft Power BI.

Her story was further shared by influential persons including Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima alias King Kaka.

In a past interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Muiruri acknowledged that jobs were scarce and confessed to constantly applying for several jobs, amounting to over 2,000 unsuccessful applications.

Following the mass rejection, she resorted to appealing for jobs in the streets.

"I come from a humble background so my family is not in a position to help. I thought about it (begging on the streets) for quite some time and decided to just do it," she explained.
