The government, on Thursday, directed over 52,447 Kenyans to pick up their smart driving licences from Huduma centres across the country.
Huduma Kenya, via its social media pages, stated that it sent messages to the drivers.
On National IDs, it acknowledged delays in processing new applications but confirmed that 122,027 copies were ready for collection.
However, the announcement only factored in applicants who applied for IDs before November 2023.
"We apologise for the delays with the ID processing, but once they are ready, you will receive a text message for collection," the statement read in part.
Additionally, a section of Kenyans lamented that passports were omitted from the list of uncollected documents, with Huduma Kenya only considering IDs and Driving Licences.
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura had on Thursday explained that the Ministry of Interior was facing various challenges in the printing of passports including repairing a printing machine.
He, however, confirmed that the State had procured two new machines to solve the perennial delays.
"I am happy to report that there are two new machines that have been procured and we have been able to print 100,000 new passports that are going to be issued," Mwaura stated.
Passport printing has been an issue in the country, with some Kenyans lamenting that they have waited for the travel documents for over six months.
In the past months, Kenyans urged Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen to address the delays in the issuance of smart driving licences and new number plates.
Murkomen, in his response, promised to oversee reforms at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and curb the backlog in the printing of the licences, logbooks and digital number plates.
