Kajiado County received support from the Korean government to enhance its healthcare system.

During a meeting with the Korean Ambassador to Kenya, Sung-jun Yeo, and Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Njuguna Ndung'u, on Monday, Kajiado Governor, Joseph Ole Lenku, was granted Ksh980.5 million.

The money is aimed at improving and strengthening Maternal and Newborn Healthcare in the county.

"According to the agreement, the grant will see the construction of maternal shelters, initiate community programs, provide medical equipment and capacity building for health workers." read a statement from Treasury.

CS Ndung'u noted that the project will have a greater impact and improve the effectiveness of the healthcare system in Kitengela Sub-county Hospital.

Ndung'u further remarked that the project financing was a result of the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Kenya and Korea.

On his part, Ole Lenku emphasised that the new project will enhance healthcare accessibility and quality for the community.

Governor Ole Lenku emphasized his government's commitment to improving the healthcare system in the county during the 2023 Jamhuri celebrations. He urged the residents to welcome and support the healthcare promoters that have been deployed in the region.

"We cannot achieve any agenda without good health. We appreciate community health promoters' role in helping us attain universal healthcare vision 2030," he added.

President William Ruto introduced the Community Health Promotion (CHP) to deliver preventive and promotive health solutions at the grassroots. Over 100,000 promoters have been deployed fully equipped to serve in all 47 counties.

In January, Ole Lenku commissioned the Ewangan Health Centre in Kajiado East Constituency to bring medical services closer to the residents.

Ole Lenku noted that some of the residents were forced to walk long distances to access healthcare services risking their lives. The hospital was equipped with a motorcycle ambulance to help expectant mothers in remote areas get to the hospital in time.

The governor also assured the locals that he would commission level four and level three hospitals in each sub-county.
